Whether you’re indulging on a rooftop, beer garden or period-themed-basement, Sydney has no shortage of spots to sip on a cocktail when the temperature starts rising. Below are our favourite places to frequent when a refreshing tipple is required…

The Lobo Plantation

Head down the curved staircase and you’ll arrive in a Caribbean themed oasis, with no less than 250 types of rum to help you get the evening started. Smartly clad bartenders and wait staff will happily guide you through the fun cocktail list, of which we highly recommend The Tailfeather with Appleton Signature rum, Aperol, pimento dram, coconut water, pineapple, lime and sugar – but good luck stopping at one!

This WWII French Liberation themed bar replete with wood furnishings and period paraphernalia is a treasure for those looking to escape. While also offering all the classics, the inventive house cocktails are listed with a handy breakdown so you can get to know your libations. We’d start with the Hip n Bone, teaming Jim Beam Rye, spiced pineapple, passionfruit, lemon, mint, mure and ginger beer before diving into the rum based Corky’s Lady Killer.

Hotel Palisade’s rooftop venue is the ultimate for a chic afternoon cocktail session with the girls. The luxe interiors and unparalleled harbour views make for serious Instagram fodder – add a round of cocktails and you’ve hit gold. The No Way Frosé is a crowd pleaser, and the Yuzu You Fizz with Olmeca Altos tequila, Yuzushu, grapefruit shrub, lime and tonic is heavenly.

35 Bettington Street, Millers Point


Sip on a tropical cocktail as you soak up some of Sydney’s best views at this rooftop bar in Barangaroo. You’ll be spoiled for choice on the Tiki-style cocktail front with the Hava Good One or the Lady Bowen. The Big Pineapple with Don Julio Blanco tequila, caramel syrup, Mr Black cold drip coffee, fresh lime and pineapple juice and a dash of egg white, will have you dancing like Carmen Miranda in no time.

Eau De Vie

If a dapper affair is on the agenda, Eau De Vie is the answer. With an almost encyclopaedic cocktail list you’ll be spoiled for choice and smothered with attention of the best kind by the friendly barmen. For a summery spritz, give the Lily Fleur a try, with Beefeater gin, white wine and pear and caraway liqueurs you’ll be floating on a cocktail induced cloud state.

Continental Bar & Deli

While there has been ample buzz surrounding the ‘Mar-tinny’ and ‘Can-hattan’ creations, Continental’s host of other classic cocktails featuring sherries, vermouth and house made liqueurs are well worth a dabble. Your New Pal with scotch, Campari, dry vermouth, smoked maple syrup and bitters is delightfully moreish, and the House spritz with Averna, tinned fruit syrup and soda will keep you bubbly all night.

Watson’s Bay Boutique Hotel

This Eastern Suburbs gem is a bastion of harbourside glamour, and an afternoon in the sun is made all the more indulgent with an icy cocktail in hand. Naturally, the Aperol Spritz or Summer Sangria are popular sellers, while the Elderflower mojito with Pampero Blanco rum, elderflower, lime, mint and soda is uber refreshing. The Itsy Bitsy is perfect for those with a sweet tooth, with vodka, lychee juice and sparkling apple.

Coogee Pavilion

Embodying all things Sydney, this beachside spot has everything going for it, a huge dining hall to rooftop vistas to their summery cocktail list, you won’t want to leave. The Pavilion Pina Colada is quintessential summer drinking, while the Beachbum with Havana Club 3, peach schnapps, pineapple, lime and mint always goes down well. The Watermelon sangria jug is a must for group celebrations.

169 Dolphin Street, Coogee


Overlooking Circular Quay, this Cuban styled bar is a beloved haunt for those in need of a crisp cocktail in stunning surrounds. The bar menu holds an impressive array of rum and American whiskey, with the Garden Path bringing gin, mezcal, blood orange liqueur, lime juice, fresh pineapple and basil leaves together. The Fading Light is the perfect follow up for a smooth chaser.

Popular Barangaroo foodie hangout, NOLA brings the best of America’s southern hospitality to Sydney.
